Maintaining Your Epoxy Floors: Do's and Don'ts

Maintaining Your Epoxy Floors: Do’s and Don’ts

Congratulations on your newly installed epoxy floors! To ensure their longevity and appearance, follow these guidelines:

Do’s:

  1. Regular Cleaning: Sweep or dust mop the floors daily to remove dirt, dust, and debris using a microfiber. Use a soft-bristled broom, a microfiber or a dust mop to prevent scratches. For more thorough cleaning, use a soft-bristle or foam mop with a mild cleaner or a pH-balanced solution mixed with water. Recommended products: pH-neutral cleaners, such as Simple Green All-Purpose Cleaner, or products specifically designed for epoxy floors.

  2. Immediate Spill Cleanup: Wipe up spills promptly to prevent staining or damage to the epoxy. Use a soft cloth or mop with a mild detergent and warm water for liquids. For solid spills, use a plastic scraper or spatula to gently remove the substance.

  3. Gentle Cleaning Tools: Use non-abrasive cleaning tools such as soft-bristled brushes, foam mops, or microfiber cloths to avoid scratching the epoxy surface.

  4. Protective Mats or Rugs: Place mats or rugs in high-traffic areas and near entryways to trap dirt and prevent abrasive particles from shoes.

  5. Periodic Deep Cleaning: Periodically clean the floor using a mild detergent or a specialized epoxy floor cleaner. Avoid using harsh chemicals or cleaners containing acids, vinegar, or citrus, as they can damage the epoxy surface.

Don’ts:

  1. Avoid Harsh Chemicals: Do not use acidic cleaners, vinegar, citrus-based cleaners, or abrasive cleaners on epoxy floors as they can damage the finish and cause dullness.

  2. Avoid Rough Tools: Refrain from using abrasive tools, steel wool, stiff-bristle brushes, or scouring pads, as these can scratch or damage the epoxy surface.

  3. Avoid Standing Water: Excessive water or moisture can compromise the epoxy’s adhesion. Dry any spills or pooling liquids immediately to prevent damage.

  4. Avoid Heavy Impact: Protect the floor from heavy impacts, dragging heavy furniture without proper padding, or dropping sharp or heavy objects directly onto the epoxy surface.

  5. Avoid Oil-Based Soaps or Cleaners: Using oil-based soaps or cleaners can leave a residue on the epoxy, making it slippery and attracting dirt.
